The remarkable legacy of Fredericton’s achievements as an arts and culture destination and home to creatives continues to grow, diversify, and thrive. The City of Fredericton’s first Culture Plan was adopted by City Council in 2014. Since then, the City as well as the broader arts and culture landscape has grown and diversified. The City of Fredericton is currently working in collaboration with a consulting team from Patricia Huntsman Culture + Communication to develop a Creative City Strategy that will provide:
Provide a renewed vision to support Fredericton’s growth as a creative community;
Sustain an energetic and supportive environment where arts and culture can continue to thrive and;
Further strengthen Fredericton’s vibrant local economy.
The new Creative City Strategy is intended to define the future direction, policies, priorities, and actions for Fredericton’s creative ecosystem
The City of Fredericton invites you to participate in this process!
The City of Fredericton Creative City Strategy is on track to be completed and presented to Council by Summer 2027.
Why a Creative City Strategy?
Early engagement activities in February 2026 revealed that the path for Fredericton’s cultural future requires an expansive and diverse definition. A Creative City Strategy acknowledges the central role of arts and cultural development in Fredericton’s economic, tourism, and community planning and provides a solid foundation for the objectives of this process:
Creating an environment for creative expression and experiences for everyone
Facilitating access to arts and culture throughout the community
Recognizing and cultivating the role and interconnectedness of cultural resources in Fredericton’s creative ecosystem
It’s important to create a Creative City Strategy that feels like home – deeply rooted in local context, has diverse identities represented, inspires people to be involved in the conversation, and leverages Fredericton’s unparalleled community-based and professional arts scene.
Public engagement and participation encourages more informed decision-making, which reflects the needs of the community. We invite interested residents from all backgrounds, abilities, ages, and relationships to the arts to participate in the various activities that will be happening throughout the process to inform recommendations for the final Creative City Strategy.

The provincial government is in possession of those assets -you could inquire with them directly to find out more!
Share 1. Core Priorities: What are the three biggest goals the City is most excited about betting on for the next decade? I’d love to know how we’ll measure success in making Fredericton a place where local artists can truly thrive and afford to stay.
2. The "Big Show" Gap: The new PAC is going to be a world-class addition for theatre and music, but since it's capped at 850 seats, we still have a gap for those larger touring acts. Is there a long-term plan to help modernize the Aitken University Centre’s acoustics or technical setup so "mid-to-big name" shows don't have to bypass us for other cities?
3. A Vibrant Cityscape: I love the art we have, but I’d love to see even more! Is there a way the City can help make it easier or more affordable for business owners to get large-scale murals on their walls? I’d love to see an even bigger push for street art to keep our downtown and Northside feeling vibrant and unique.
Murals: Can we expand public art beyond just new municipal buildings? I’d like to see a plan that makes it easier and cheaper to get large-scale murals on private and commercial walls across the city.
