Consultation has concluded

This year, Earth Day is April 22 and the City is inviting you to take actions that make a positive impact on the environment by hosting a 30-day Earth Day Challenge, beginning April 1st. We are challenging you to take steps across your own lives to reduce your carbon footprints with weekly themes across the month.

Join the challenge and share your photos and check out the gallery to see what others are doing.

Earth Day Challenge Actions

Week 1: Know your impact and get prepared for climate change

  • Watch a documentary, read a book, or listen to a podcast about the environment

  • Learn more about climate change and future projections by visiting climatedata.ca

Week 2: Change the way you move

  • Get out and explore Fredericton’s expansive multi-use trail system

  • Carpool to work, school or for errands

  • Park 1 km from work or school and walk or wheel the last few blocks

  • Go car free for a day

Week 3: Reduce your impact

Week 4: Explore Fredericton’s natural spaces and local shops

  • Check out your local library: borrow a book on the environment, a bird watching kit, or a bike repair kit

  • Go for a hike or try birding in one of our destination parks

  • Plant an herb or vegetable garden (containers work!) or join a community garden

  • Buy local: visit the Boyce Farmer’s Market and support local growers and businesses

  • Pick up trash in your neighbourhood
