End Homelessness

Ideas:

  • There are far to many folks sleeping on the streets of Fredericton. Our city currently has zero affordable housing. Our shelters are at half capacity due to COVID and now 72 Regent is closing. I’ve recently heard there are approximately 105 homeless individuals right now and this is not okay. I know the city is planning to build condos or more high end apartments on the FREX lands. Why couldn’t a percentage of those units become affordable housing? It would give individuals accessibility to Health Care services at FDCHC, hot meals at the soup kitchen etc. Affordable housing should be a basic human right! Let’s set an example for the rest of Canada and end homelessness in our city!
  • Work together with the provinicial and federal governments to provide the range of affordable housing needed. The city can provide land, eg Frex lands, tax incentives for developers, and mandated affordable housing requirements for new developments. You got this Fredericton!
  • Be the council that leaves a Fabulous legacy - The City that ended homelessness! This city needs affordable housing to make this happen. The beautiful City of Fredericton has a Serious homeless problem, that can be reversed. Is any consideration being given to the frex property for development of affordable housing? That would make a great area, close to all amenities! Everyone deserves a roof over their head, food in their belly and a sense of safety and security.
  • I heard there are over 105 homeless people in Fredericton and it's going to get worse. I'd like to see some housing for homeless people on Frex Lands. I'd like to see more housing for homeless.
